How to Make Money Online with AdSense: A Complete Guide from Scratch

What is Google Adsense?

Google AdSense is a free advertising program by Google that allows website owners, bloggers, and YouTubers to earn money by displaying ads on their content.

Since 2015, I’ve been building websites that generate income through Google AdSense. Over the years, I have generated thousands of dollars from different sites. I’ve mastered the process of creating niche websites, getting them to rank well in Google, and monetizing them through ads — especially for traffic coming from the US, Canada, and Australia. In this guide, I’ll walk you through the exact steps to replicate this model, even if you’re starting from scratch.

Step 1: Get Hosting and Domain

Start by purchasing hosting and a domain name. I recommend Hostinger because it’s affordable, fast, and reliable — perfect for beginners.

  • Choose a hosting plan (Premium Shared Hosting is great to start).

  • Register a domain (try to include your niche keyword).

  • Connect your domain to your hosting account.

Step 2: Install WordPress

Once your hosting is set up, install WordPress with just a few clicks:

  • Go to your Hostinger dashboard.

  • Use the Auto Installer to install WordPress.

  • Choose a clean, lightweight theme like Astra or Kadence.

  • Install essential plugins (Yoast SEO, WP Rocket, and Contact Form 7).

Step 3: Choose a Niche and Do Keyword Research

Pick a niche that is:

  • Evergreen (e.g., health, personal finance, parenting, tech)

  • Advertiser-friendly

  • Searchable in US, Canada, and Australia

Additional niche ideas:

  • Travel tips and guides

  • Education and student resources

  • DIY and home improvement

  • Gardening and sustainability

  • Pets and animal care

  • Career and job search advice

  • Automotive guides and reviews

  • Mental health and self-improvement

  • Relationship advice

  • Sports and fitness

Use the following tools for keyword research:

  • Google Keyword Planner

  • Ubersuggest

  • Ahrefs (if you have access)

  • AlsoAsked.com (for content ideas)

Look for low competition, high CPC (cost per click) keywords with at least 500 monthly searches. Long-tail keywords are ideal for beginners.

Step 4: Create High-Quality Content

Write in-depth, helpful, and SEO-optimized blog posts. Make sure each post:

  • Answers specific search intent

  • Is at least 1,000–1,500 words

  • Uses the keyword in the title, URL, and first 100 words

  • Includes relevant images and internal links

Tip: Use ChatGPT to help you draft outlines or get ideas, but always rewrite content in your own voice.

Step 5: Optimize for SEO

Here are some on-page and off-page SEO tips:

On-page SEO:

  • Use proper heading structure (H1, H2, H3)

  • Optimize meta title and description with Yoast

  • Compress images and use descriptive file names

  • Use schema markup (FAQ schema, article schema)

Off-page SEO:

  • Build backlinks through guest posting

  • Submit your site to niche directories

  • Share your posts on Reddit, Quora, and Facebook Groups

Important: Focus on generating organic traffic from Google. Visitors from search engines are more likely to engage with your content and click on ads compared to traffic from social media or paid ads. Organic traffic tends to generate higher revenue and more consistent earnings over time.

Step 6: Apply for Google AdSense

After posting at least 15–20 high-quality articles and ensuring your site looks professional:

Once approved, place ads using Auto Ads or manual ad placements through AdSense code.

Step 7: Understand Your Potential Income

AdSense income is largely based on pageviews, ad placement, and the demographics of your traffic. A typical estimate is:

  • $2 per 1,000 pageviews (known as a $2 RPM – revenue per mille)

That means:

  • 1,000 pageviews/month = ~$2/month

  • 10,000 pageviews/month = ~$20/month

  • 50,000 pageviews/month = ~$100/month

  • 100,000 pageviews/month = ~$200/month

  • 1,000,000 pageviews/month = ~$2,000/month

Some niches (like finance or insurance) can earn more, while others may earn less. Your goal is to increase both traffic and RPM through better content, SEO, and ad placement.

Remember: organic traffic from Google brings in higher RPMs compared to other sources, making it the most valuable type of traffic for AdSense monetization.

AdSense Payment Info for the Philippines:

  • Google AdSense pays publishers every 21st of the month, as long as you’ve reached the minimum payout threshold.

  • The payment threshold is $100 USD.

  • I personally receive my AdSense payments monthly directly to my BPI bank account via wire transfer. Setup is easy through your AdSense account’s payment settings.

Step 8: Scale and Track Your Progress

  • Add new content weekly

  • Track traffic using Google Analytics and Google Search Console

  • Monitor AdSense performance (focus on RPM and CTR)

  • Update old posts regularly

These types of sites make money through high-traffic, ad-friendly content:

  • TheCalculatorSite.com – Offers financial calculators

  • Healthline.com – Monetizes health content through ads and affiliate links

  • BudgetBytes.com – Food blog with recipe content and AdSense monetization

Making money through AdSense is not a get-rich-quick scheme, but with consistency and the right strategy, it can generate long-term passive income. Start small, focus on quality content and SEO, and the traffic — and earnings — will follow.
