As I teach my students, GEO is the strategic process of optimizing your brand and content to be visible in AI search engines and generative AI tools. We are no longer just optimizing for the traditional “10 blue links.” We are optimizing to be cited, mentioned, and sourced by the AI itself.
What are the engines I’m talking about? The big ones we’re focusing on are:

More and more people are using these tools to find information quickly. For us marketers, this means we must be part of the conversation happening inside these engines.
The Non-Negotiable Foundation: Basic SEO
Now, here is the crucial caveat based on my fifteen years in the industry: For your GEO campaign to work, you must first have solid, basic SEO in place.
GEO is the skyscraper, but traditional SEO is the foundation. If you don’t have proper optimization—good site structure, relevant content, and authority signals—the AI tools won’t trust your site enough to cite it. That’s why basic SEO is always part of our GEO strategy.

1. Google Search & the AI Overview
When I go to Google (in incognito mode so the results aren’t influenced by my history) and type in a high-value, localized keyword: “free SEO training Philippines”
- First, you’ll see our website, pinoyseo.ph, right at the very top of the organic results. That’s the basic SEO working.
- Second, and this is the GEO component, look at the AI Overview. The AI has scanned the web and synthesized an answer, and guess what? Our brand, Pinoy SEO, is mentioned as one of the key resources.
Google has picked up our site as an authority for free SEO training in the Philippines. That mention in the AI Overview is our GEO strategy in action.
2. Chat GPT and AI Mode
I took the same prompt and tested it directly in the generative engines: Give me “free SEO training in the Philippines.”
- In Google’s AI Mode, the results show a list of sources—and Pinoy SEO is right there at the top, cited by the search engine.
- In Chat GPT, the platform scours the whole internet, and once again, pinoyseo.ph is mentioned prominently. You can even see that our Pinoy SEO YouTube channel (with Bisaya, Tagalog, and English content) is featured.
This is the goal: We want our brand mentioned everywhere in the AI search engines.
