The Complete Google Business Profile Optimization Checklist for Filipino Businesses (2026)

If you run a business anywhere in the Philippines — a dental clinic in Cebu, a restaurant in Manila, a plumbing service in Cagayan de Oro, or an e-commerce store shipping nationwide — your Google Business Profile (GBP) is arguably the most important marketing asset you own. Not your website. Not your Facebook page. Your GBP. Because it’s what appears in the local Map Pack when someone in your city searches for what you sell, and the Map Pack captures more clicks than the organic web results below it.

This is the 2026 Complete GBP Optimization Checklist we use with our consulting clients and teach in the PinoySEO SEO + GEO Bootcamp. It’s 100+ items across 10 sections — fundamentals, categories, NAP, description, photos, Google Posts, reviews, Q&A, advanced tactics, and monthly maintenance. Work through it top to bottom for any GBP you manage.

Quick tip before you start: get your baseline score by running your profile through our free GBP Auditor — it scores your Google Business Profile 0–100 in about 15 seconds and tells you exactly which categories below need attention first.

1. Business Fundamentals

Get the basics right before anything else. These are non-negotiable.

  • Business is verified (video, postcard, or email verification confirmed).
  • Business name matches your real, official name exactly — no keyword stuffing (e.g., “Cebu Dental Clinic – Best Dentist Near Me” gets you suspended).
  • Profile ownership is with a Google account you control, not an ex-employee or old agency.
  • You have at least 2 profile managers as backup (never rely on just one login).
  • Profile is not duplicated — search your business name and address on Google Maps to confirm.
  • Business is not marked as permanently closed (surprisingly common issue).
  • Profile is connected to Google Ads if you run ads (unlocks location extensions).
  • Profile has a short name / GBP shortlink claimed (e.g., g.co/kgs/yourname).
  • You’ve enabled Google Business Profile Manager (business.google.com) on desktop.
  • You use the Google Maps app mobile edit flow for quick updates on the go.
  • You review the Business Profile insights report at least monthly.
  • Profile completeness score in GBP Manager reads 100%.

2. Categories & Attributes

Categories tell Google exactly what you sell. Wrong categories = zero rankings for the right terms.

  • Your primary category is the single most specific category that describes your business (e.g., “Dental clinic,” not “Health”).
  • You’ve added 3–8 secondary categories covering every service you actually offer.
  • You’ve researched competitor categories — use a browser tool like GMBspy or PlePer to see what your Map Pack competitors chose.
  • Categories are updated when you add or remove services.
  • All applicable attributes are enabled (LGBTQ+ friendly, wheelchair accessible, Wi-Fi, outdoor seating, appointment required, etc.).
  • Payment methods accepted are configured (GCash, Maya, credit cards, cash).
  • Special attributes for your industry (e.g., “By appointment only,” “Online consultations available”) are set.
  • Health-and-safety attributes are updated if relevant (mask required, etc.).

3. NAP Consistency & Contact Info

NAP = Name, Address, Phone. Inconsistency across the web is the single biggest local ranking killer we see with Filipino businesses.

  • Business name, address, and phone match exactly across your website, Facebook, Yelp, TripAdvisor, and every other listing.
  • Address uses the same format everywhere (e.g., “Ste. 205” vs “Suite 205” — pick one).
  • Phone number is your direct local landline or a mobile number you actually answer — not a shared VoIP number.
  • Website URL is added and points to the correct landing page (homepage or a dedicated location page for multi-location businesses).
  • UTM tracking is added to the GBP website URL so you can measure GBP-driven traffic in GA4.
  • Regular business hours are set correctly, including lunch breaks if you close mid-day.
  • Special hours are set for Filipino holidays (Holy Week, Christmas, Rizal Day, etc.).
  • You’ve configured appointment links, menu links, or reservation links as applicable.
  • Service areas are set correctly (if you’re a service-area business like plumbers or electricians).
  • Messaging is enabled and you respond within 24 hours (Google measures response time).

4. Business Description & Services

The description isn’t a keyword-stuffing playground. It’s an entity signal to Google and a conversion tool for customers.

  • Description is 750 characters, using the full character limit.
  • The first 250 characters lead with what you do + where you do it (this is what gets shown in previews).
  • Description includes your city, neighborhood, or barangay naturally.
  • Description mentions your most-searched service keywords in a natural, non-stuffed way.
  • Every service you offer is added to the Services section with a description and price (if applicable).
  • Products are added if you sell them — service businesses can list packages as “products” for extra visibility.
  • Product/service photos are added.
  • Descriptions are checked once a quarter and updated as your offerings evolve.

5. Photos & Videos

Businesses with 100+ photos get around 520% more calls and 2,700% more direction requests than businesses with none (Google’s own data). Photos matter more than you think.

  • You have at least 40 photos uploaded (aim for 100+).
  • Cover photo is high-resolution, on-brand, and shows the exterior or key branding.
  • Logo is uploaded and current.
  • Interior photos — at least 5, well-lit.
  • Exterior photos — at least 3, from different angles.
  • Team photos — real people, not stock photography.
  • Product / service photos — at least 10.
  • “At work” photos — you or your team actually delivering the service.
  • Photos are geotagged (metadata) when possible.
  • Photos are named descriptively before upload (e.g., dental-clinic-cebu-interior.jpg, not IMG_1234.jpg).
  • New photos are added every month — freshness matters.
  • You’ve uploaded at least one video (30-second clip, less than 100MB).
  • You monitor and flag inappropriate customer photos that misrepresent your business.
  • You’ve enabled 360° photos if applicable to your business type.
  • Menu photos are uploaded (for restaurants) or price list photos (for salons/clinics).

6. Google Posts

Google Posts are the most underused freshness signal for Filipino businesses. Regular posting alone can move you up the Map Pack.

  • You post at least once per week.
  • Each post includes a photo or video.
  • Post copy is 150–300 characters (long enough to matter, short enough to read).
  • Each post has a CTA button (Book, Order, Call, Learn More).
  • You use a mix of post types: Updates, Offers, Events, Products.
  • Offer posts include an actual expiration date to appear urgent.
  • Event posts include a start date + time.
  • Posts feature seasonal Filipino themes when relevant (back-to-school, Christmas, Undas, Valentine’s, etc.).
  • Posts link to a UTM-tracked landing page.
  • You review post performance in the Insights tab monthly.

7. Reviews Management

Reviews are the #1 ranking factor in the local Map Pack, according to every credible local SEO study of the last five years.

  • You have at least 10 reviews (target: more than each of your top 3 Map Pack competitors).
  • Overall star rating is 4.3+ stars.
  • Reviews come in consistently — at least 2 new reviews per month.
  • You have a review generation process (SMS, email, QR card, printed receipt reminder, or thank-you page prompt).
  • You share your Google review link (g.page/r/...) in emails, invoices, and receipts.
  • You respond to every review — 5-star and 1-star alike — within 48 hours.
  • Responses are personalized (mention the reviewer’s name and specifics).
  • Response templates exist for common review types but you customize before posting.
  • You never buy fake reviews — Google detects this and suspends profiles.
  • Negative reviews are handled professionally, offering to take the conversation offline.
  • Fake or defamatory reviews are flagged via the Google support tool.
  • Review keywords naturally include your service and city (customers mentioning what they hired you for helps rankings).

8. Q&A Management

The Questions & Answers section is where customers ask real questions — and where competitors sometimes post misleading ones. Own it.

  • You’ve seeded 5–10 questions yourself covering the most common customer inquiries (Google allows this).
  • Questions cover pricing, hours, services, parking, appointments, and location details.
  • Answers are helpful, thorough, and include natural keywords.
  • You monitor Q&A notifications and respond within 24 hours to real customer questions.
  • Misleading or spam questions are flagged.
  • You upvote correct answers so they display first.

9. Advanced Optimization

Once the fundamentals are dialed in, these advanced tactics separate the Map Pack winners from the also-rans.

  • Your website has a location-specific landing page with the exact business name, address, and phone matching your GBP.
  • You’ve implemented LocalBusiness schema markup on that page.
  • You’ve built local citations on Filipino directories (Yelp Philippines, TripAdvisor, Foursquare, industry-specific PH sites).
  • You have NAP-consistent citations on at least 20 directories.
  • Your website is mobile-friendly and passes Core Web Vitals.
  • You’ve submitted your business to Bing Places and Apple Business Connect.
  • You’ve claimed profiles on OpenStreetMap, Waze, and MapBox.
  • You use Google Business Profile Insights to track search queries and calls.
  • You track Map Pack rankings weekly using a tool like BrightLocal or a Google Search Console + GA4 combo.
  • You have Google Analytics 4 UTM tracking on every GBP link.
  • You’ve enabled booking, ordering, or messaging integrations if applicable to your business.
  • You’ve added your business to relevant Facebook groups and community pages — mentions and citations matter beyond Google.

10. Monthly Maintenance

GBP isn’t set-and-forget. Make this a monthly ritual for every profile you manage.

  • Post to Google at least 4 times per month.
  • Upload 5+ new photos per month.
  • Reply to every new review within 48 hours.
  • Answer any new Q&A within 24 hours.
  • Update special hours for the upcoming month’s holidays.
  • Review insights and search queries once a month.
  • Check for suggested edits and reject any that misrepresent your business.
  • Re-run the GBP Auditor to benchmark your score over time.
