Your Role at hipages

hipages is Australia’s #1 digital platform connecting homeowners with trusted tradies. As an ASX-listed tech company, we’re on a mission to transform the trade industry and improve lives with offices in Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam and Philippines.

We’re seeking a motivated, self-sufficient candidate with minimum 5 years’ experience to assist in the execution of the SEO/AEO/GEO strategy. As the SEO Specialist, you’ll be working directly with the SEO Manager within the wider Acquisition team. Your work will play a critical role in improving hipages’ search visibility across Google and AI engines, driving conversions, and contributing to the success of our marketplace for both Consumers and Businesses. Successful candidates will demonstrate excellent technical skills, with experience working across content. Workload will be roughly spread across Technical SEO (60%) and Content (40%).

Key Responsibilities

Technical SEO

  • Run technical, crawling, and indexing health checks using Screaming Frog and Botify.
  • Identify technical SEO opportunities and issues specific to hipages’ page hierarchy – including schema markup and indexability gaps
  • Recommend and action technical SEO fixes in collaboration with the SEO Manager and relevant product/engineering teams.
  • Monitor technical SEO metrics – such as pagespeed, schema markup, error codes, and indexation signals as part of ongoing site health
  • Implement 301 redirects for page migrations, with a strong grasp of URL structure best practices to protect and preserve SEO value.

Content Management

  • Use AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, or others) to generate SEO-led content that aligns with hipages brand guidelines, tone of voice, and audience intent.
  • Write detailed content briefs for freelance writers, covering target keywords, audience, page structure recommendations, and on-page requirements.
  • Review content for accuracy, SEO best practices, content guidelines and brand tone of voice before publication.
  • Publish and edit content, ensuring accurate formatting and a high standard of presentation.
  • Create and optimise on-page elements including meta titles, meta descriptions, headings, and internal linking.
  • Conduct comprehensive keyword research drawing on multiple data sources to identify high-value opportunities for the hipages brand.
  • Perform competitor content analysis to identify gaps, emerging topics, and areas where hipages can take more SERP real estate.

SEO Strategy, Analysis & Reporting

  • Support the SEO Manager in executing hipages’ SEO, GEO, and AEO strategy across Consumer and Business audiences
  • Use tools including Google Search Console, GA4, SEMRush, Screaming Frog and Botify to create comprehensive reporting and support SEO initiatives
  • Prepare regular SEO performance reports tracking organic traffic, conversions, rankings, and LLM/AI visibility across multiple data sources.
  • Identify opportunities to automate and improve team processes, reducing manual effort and improving output
  • Monitor SEO news and algorithm developments, flagging significant updates or AI-driven changes to the team promptly
  • Prepare risk analyses to determine SEO impact of migrating pages and changing URL structure.

What You Bring

Technical Skills

  • Solid understanding of SEO, AEO & GEO principles and practices – with strong focus across technical SEO and content
  • Working knowledge of technical SEO: pagespeed, schema markup, crawl errors, indexation, Core Web Vitals, and site architecture.
  • Awareness of AI impacts on SEO, including basic knowledge of AEO/GEO.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for keyword analysis, data manipulation, and reporting.
  • Experience with GA4, Google Search Console, Google Pagespeed Insights, SEMRush and Screaming Frog.
  • Experience with content management systems (publishing, editing, formatting).
  • Experience with Botify, Tableau, and Ahrefs (preferred but not essential).

Personal Attributes

  • Self-sufficient, collaborative with natural curiosity about SEO/GEO/AEO, including how search is evolving.
  • Ability to take ownership of your work and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Proactivity in identifying, raising and actioning SEO optimisations/fixes outside of what is explicitly requested of them.
  • Applies a strategic lens to all their tasks and actively contributes to the broader SEO strategy.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Adaptable and re-prioritise tasks effectively in response to the fast-changing nature of SEO and AI, where priorities can come up at short notice.
  • Experience with CMS/site migrations and information architecture (IA) projects (preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in an SEO-focused role.

Month 0–2

  • Deep understanding of the hipages SEO strategy, site structure (including top converting pages), audience segmentation on both sides of the marketplace and competitive landscape (Airtasker, Oneflare, etc.).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of hipages’ current SEO & GEO/AEO performance.
  • Comfortable and confident using core tools: SEMRush, Botify, GA4, GSC, Peec.ai and hipages’ CMS.
  • Writing/delegating briefs and publishing optimised content end-to-end with minimal supervision.
  • Contributing accurate, well-structured data to regular SEO reports – including meaningful insights
  • Flagging major algorithm updates or AI search developments to the team within 2 business days of news breaking.
  • Running proactive technical checks and raising high priority issues with clear recommendations without being prompted.

Month 3-4

  • Confident using secondary tools: Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, Google PageSpeed Insights.
  • Completing at least one meaningful keyword research piece, including identification of top opportunities backed by data.
  • Successfully owning and completing at least one technical optimisation backed by data
  • Assist with 301 redirect implementation for any active migration work.
  • Taking independent ownership of content and technical SEO reporting, executing work with timeliness and accuracy.

Month 5-6

  • Operating as a confident SEO specialist who owns execution of their initiatives and surfaces recommendations without being prompted.
  • Contributing to GEO/AEO initiatives, with a clear understanding of best practices for ranking well in AI engines.
  • Actively contributing ideas to the SEO strategy by applying a strategic, broader lens to day-to-day work
  • Demonstrating measurable SEO impact through content and technical contributions: traffic, rankings, or visibility uplift.
  • Independently produce reports with multiple datapoints, delivering clear insights and strategic recommendations.
